It's one of my favorite parts of the movie... Because I'd like to post something something fun here instead of just about problems and regrets I bring you this meme. I promise to catch you up on everything else later today.
*hugs*
When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As you wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech.

So Hot (SPN/XF, Crossover). Als Download oder bei Youtube. Krycek betätigt sich als Stalker und Dean ist ... *guh* Dean Winchester is being hunted...by Alex Krycek. Ich liebe diese Ficvids. Jetzt fehlt mir nur noch die passende Fanfic dazu. Apropos Supernatural und andere Pairings als Sam/Dean: Like a Rolling Thunder Chasing the Wind von elise_509 (SPN, Sam/Castiel, ~11,500 words). “We were never supposed to meet.” It’s the first thing he says. No introduction, just six words like a warning. Sam doesn’t move, but Castiel still stiffly shifts away from Sam, uneasy.Außerdem beglückt rheasilvia die Welt mit einem Winnetou and Old Shatterhand picspam, der auch gut als Primer für das Pairing funktioniert. Bevor ich mich daran mache, in meinem Berg an Squee nach Worten für die neue Merlin-Folge zu suchen, zitiere ich lieber riviers Review: Watch it, feel the fluffy love and I defy you to still be upright by the end. It's like having your leg humped by a gay mammoth on Viagra. It's huuuuuuuuuuge, man! Besser kann man es nicht auf den Punkt bringen. :D |

New Anime Season There might be spoilers below.
Natsume Yujin-cho, ep.13: My favourite anime of the year so far. The storytelling is quiet and moves slowly but undeniably human and bitter-sweet without trying too hard to win the viewer's sympathy. Natsume feels like a real person in his speech and reaction to events, which in my opinion is high praise for an anime character/series. Looking forward to the second season in January.
Casshern Sins, ep.1: I watched the OVA and Live-action film years ago. The OVA had that old-school feel and appeal of making one care for the character even while drowning in angst, while the film was probably the most beautiful and innovative piece of Japanese cinematography I've seen. This new series by Madhouse Studio manages to do the impossible: retain the old-school feel/character design/story-telling mode and make its world look moody and visually lush. Definitely watching this one.
Ga-Rei Zero, ep.1: I'm impressed by this anime. I thought myself jaded when it comes to the anime genre but this one convinced me it's still possible for anime to look fresh and innovative even when employing old clichés. The moody setting of the city, the cinematography that is gorgeous and more akin to action movies in its scene construction, and the music adding to the gloomy mood. Best of all, the protagonist and his girlfriend are adults. Natsuki, his girlfriend, seriously rocks as an anime female character. Whoever thought of protective runes inscribed on motorcycle tires? Watching this episode felt like watching a good action film, it ends on a brilliant cliff-hanger that manages to tie the threads and themes in this episode in a full circle. This episode feels like a combination of Yukikaze's serious mood and beautiful visuals with Yami no Matsuei's supernatural/horror elements and strange symbolism. Arguably one of the more promising series this season!
Vampire Knight: Guilty, ep.1: Let's be honest here, if you like vampires and their genre then this anime does it proud and employs all the little genre clichés/symbolism/tricks. This season enters into the more interesting story arc of the manga. The sexual tension between Kaname/Yuuki/Zero is delicious and so thick one can suffocate from it. The OP is very well-done and prepares you/sets the mood for what's coming. All in all, if you're a vampire fan then you can't go wrong with VKG.
Yozakura Quartet, ep.1: I couldn't drop this one fast enough. It rips off elements and character designs from every single shoujo and shounen anime out there. The OP makes you think you're watching a hentai anime, weirdly enough. Ugh, no thanks. |

Luck vs Effort Whenever anyone says that [X,Y,Z] in your life is due to luck - or that [X,Y,Z] is not in their life because of luck, think on this. Very things in life are the result of pure 'luck' (unless we're talking about surviving a shark attack or an avalanche in which case, boy are you unlucky to have been caught in one in the first place. statistically speaking) Or consider this: "......And that’s the key to the paradox of effort: While luck may be more appealing than effort, you don’t get to choose luck. Effort, on the other hand, is totally available, all the time." Seth Godin Or this: " If you can devote two hours a day to improving yourself and doing something to change your situation, your life will improve. Period."

Things to do today In no particular order except maybe non-negotiable deadlines.
- invent title for conference paper for Leeds 2009 and submit by deadline (ahem, today).
- send handout from last night's tutorial to students who didn't come (bastards).
- call HQ and tell them that they are idiots because they said there was no data projector in the room I was allocated for the tutorial and that they'd switch me to a different room for the rest of the year due to my unreasonable insistence on wanting to use newfangled equipment (i.e. notebook)... and there's no need for that because hello? there was a data projector right there (and if I'd known, I'd have taken the notebook, and that'll teach me to ever leave home without it again)... and now can I have teh intarwebs too, kplzthx.
- beta short X/1999 piece.
- play chatty tutor in online tutorial groups.
- buy throat lozenges, those ones which make your throat go horribly numb because horribly numb... would be good.
- do the kanji flashcards at least once; twice if brane doesn't keel over ded.
- write emails to friends.
- write.
- whine.

Darn it! I was hoping to get to go to Wincon. Still do but today just made it a lot harder.
Lee's been out of town the last few days, he was at the first of two work conferences scheduled for this month. He's on his way back today, should be home around 7:30. I've been driving the RAV, I had to get his tags replaced, get gas. It's been making a bit of a pinging sound so I was going to have it checked out. As I was coming down Taylorsville Road from getting his tags the oil and engine lights both came on. With visions of losing the engine entirely from a dropped valve I pulled over, put on the flashers and prayed not to get hit until I could get it towed to our mechanic.
They've checked it out and think that it might be the timing belt, which means that they'll have to pull the engine just to get to it. Which also means that it's going to cost us between 4 to 5 hundred dollars to fix it. We don't have a choice, Lee has to have his car to get back and forth to work. They said it should be ready sometime tomorrow.
This is a bad month for this to happen in anyway with the two work trips for Lee. Like I've said before, though they do reimburse us we always have to pay for his lodging up front. Just the one he's coming back from today cost us $405.00. Hopefully they'll get that back to us before he has to take the next trip the end of the month.
That's why I really don't know if I can justify even trying to go to Wincon, no matter how much I'd love to. Even if I try and go I'll probably have to bring mom with me unless I can talk Betsy into taking her a few days. Sometimes it feels like I'm just not supposed to do stuff like that. Especially since it's a frivolous expense and it's just for me.
I'm going to try and sell a bunch of stuff, see what happens. If it's meant to be it's meant to be. The car breaking down is probably the universe trying to tell me something. Just sucks a little though.
*hugs* |

Helpful Tool: Cost To Drive? Cost To Drive - calculates fuel expenses for a trip based on current gas prices and the model of your car Roundtrip cost from our home to San Francisco, CA = $18 (one or two persons) Public transit cost for one person: $12, for two = $20 (public transit is partial - we have to drive to the nearest train station) |
